From Prof Okonofua
I am excited to announce that today the forward-looking Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has appointed a very worthy successor to me as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City, Ondo State. He is Professor Adesegun Fatusi, MBCHB, MPH, FWACP, PhD, a professor of public health and past Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Professor Fatusi previously served as the Director of the OAU\'s Institute of Public Health and worked with the UNFPA as reproductive health advisor. He is the chair of Nigeria\'s National Technical Working Group on Adolescent Reproductive Health and Development. His research and professional activities focus mainly on reproductive health, reproductive and maternal health services, and health policy.
He has served as the lead consultant for the development of Nigeria\'s national policy on the health and development of adolescents and young persons, national reproductive health policy, and national policy on HIV/AIDS. He also served previously on the Ministerial committee on health sector reform as well as on the Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria. At the time of this appointment, he was the Director of Research at the Allan Guttmacher Institute, USA
Surely, this is a great and well deserved appointment. I thank the Council of UNIMED under the Chairmanship of Dr Tayo Fawehinmi, and the Governor of Ondo State for ensuring that the best candidate emerged as the second Vice-Chancellor of the University.
To UNIMED - I say forward ever, backward never! To God be the glory.......
